Male, aged 79. 

Symptoms: Sudden right eye blindness for two weeks. Only faint light and blurred outlines can be seen from right eye. 

Patient background: His left eye was blinded during a car accident 20 years ago. Patient maintains basic health, where blood pressure and blood sugar levels are normal. He experiences poor sleeping patterns; waking up often during the night and gets up early. He enjoys alcoholic beverages and daily intake of coffee. The tongue appears normal and the pulse is vigorous and wiry. Western medicine diagnosed his problem as muscular degeneration with haemorrhage. 

TCM diagnosis: Liver and kidney are deficient. Internal wind element cause disturbance to the head. Qi and blood stasis. One has to take into consideration of his old age, which causes weakness in organ functions. Long-term drinking and coffee consumption (Yin fluids) caused the wind disturbances, which lead to his symptoms.

Treatment plan: Cure liver and kidney deficiency. Clear liver wind. Increase blood circulation. The best treatment plan is using brewed Chinese herbal medicine.

Formula: 10g Shu Di, 10g Huang Jing, 10g Nü Zhen Zi, 10g Rou Cong Rong, 10g Go Ji Zi, 10g Tu Si Zi, 10g Dang Gui, 10g Bai Shao, 10g Jü Hua, 10g Ci Ji Li, 10g Jue Ming Zi, 10g Huai Niu Xi

Treatment result: The original formula was taken orally every second day. After three months, the darkness in the eye lightened and outlines of objects became clearer. The formula was then altered for the following two months, changing the Jü Hua for Di Huang Wan in order to improve the blood circulatory function. He is now able to read short texts and his sleeping patterns have also improved. From the before and after scan, one can see the blood clot around the eye is almost gone. 

Female, aged 2.

Symptoms: The toddler was in and out of the hospital since her birth for asthma. Her immune system was poor. She often got pneumonitis and bronchitis often. Her complexion was poor, digestion was poor and cried often. 

TCM diagnosis: In children, the body is usually both Yin and Yang deficient, especially when the respiratory tract is repeatedly infected. When this occurs, the immune system decreases and lung Qi deficiency is more likely to occur. In this case, the child has Yang deficiency.

Treatment plan: In order to improve her immune system and nourish her Yang deficiency, taking pediatric medication was not the most effective. Dong Bing Xia Zhi (Winter disease, treat in summer) was the most effective method and longer lasting. The procedure of the treatment can be read here. 

Treatment result: Following the Dong Bing Xia Zhi treatment, she had flu during the subsequent winter, however her asthma was not as severe. She repeated the treatment plan for three years in total until asthma totally cleared up. The girl is now 13 years of age and in perfect health.
